The basics of the game are the same as in any edition of Blackjack, and your main objective is to get a hand total of 21, called Blackjack, without going any higher and while beating the Dealer’s hand total. Face cards are worth 10, number cards are worth their displayed value and aces are worth 11 or 1 depending on what is best for the rest of the hand.
Simple Blackjack Game Play
You and the Dealer both get 2 cards, and you can see both of yours plus 1 of the Dealer’s. Based on this information you need to decide what you want your next move to be. You can Hit and get another card, or Split your hand into 2 and get dealt another card to each of your new hands. In some varieties of Blackjack you can Split more than once per round, but in Vegas Single Deck you only get 1 allowance.
You can also choose to Double Down and increase your bet by 100% while getting dealt another card. Once you’ve Split, you won’t be allowed to Double Down. When you’re happy with your hand, you can Stand and end your turn.
Dealer hands must Stand on any hand of 18 or more and Hit on any hand of 16 or less. The Dealer also needs to Stand on a Hard 17 and Hit on a Soft 17, with the former not containing aces and the latter holding an ace. Since the ace can be worth 11 or 1 this means the Dealer can’t Bust or exceed 21 in this situation, which pushes up the House Edge. To negate for this, the Dealer will Peek if the ace-up card has a 10-value. If the second card makes a Blackjack hand the round ends, and you don’t have to bet and then lose excessive money.
