The Origins of Roulette

Roulette is popularly known as one of the most iconic and sophisticated games that has become synonymous with the glamorous world of casinos. This famous game has humble beginnings and its name is derived from the French word that means “little wheel”.

The Roulette wheel was invented in the 17th century by Blaise Pascal, a French inventor, physicist and mathematician. It was Pascal’s search for perpetual motion that became the driving force behind the classic casino game that we know and love today. The Roulette wheel was created by Pascal in 1655 originally as an attempt to create a perpetual motion machine. He would spin the wheel in one direction and simultaneously send the ball spinning in the opposite direction in an effort to prove his theory. His experiment ultimately failed, however the world remains richer for this blunder as one of the greatest casino games was created!

Experience the Thrill of Roulette like Never Before

While Roulette may have its origins rooted in the scientific musings of 17th century French physicist and inventor, Blaise Pascal, today it has become a phenomenon that has set the online gaming landscape ablaze. Online Roulette is one of the most popular online casino games, holding its own against the equally popular likes of Pokies and online Blackjack.

The game has certainly evolved through the ages and the most common versions that are played today are the European and American styles. At Mummys Gold, Kiwi players can enjoy an incredible variety of different versions of the game, each offering a range of playing formats, game speeds, betting options and more. You can expect crisp graphics, atmospheric sound effects, seamless gameplay and all sorts of exciting betting action that will have you entertained for hours!

Roulette Fundamentals

Why not try your hand at this game of chance? Spin the virtual wheel and you could be winning in no time at all! In Online Roulette, the Roulette wheel and ball are virtual, however the premise of the game remains largely identical to its real life counterpart. The game uses a Roulette wheel and betting grid. The Roulette wheel has little numbered pockets around its perimeter and the game is set in motion once the ball is dropped onto the wheel in the opposite direction to which the wheel is spinning.

Your bet is determined by which numbered pocket the ball lands in. In the European version, the pockets are numbered 0 to 36, while in the American version, there is an additional 00 pocket. Each numbered pocket is either red or black with the exception of the 0 and 00 pockets, which are green.

Players can place a bet on the colour of the pocket and/ or the number of the pocket that they think the ball will eventually land in.

The two main bets in Roulette include Inside Bets and Outside Bets. Although trickier to win, Inside Bets pay out higher odds. These are bets placed inside the betting grid on a single number or a small group of up to six numbers. Outside Bets are bets, which incorporate groups of 12 to 18 numbers that are placed outside of the betting grid. The payout odds for Outside Bets are naturally lower.
