Wonderful Slot Wins Around the World
The winnings paid out by slots in casinos around the world are a far cry from the gum sticks and cigars of the machines of days gone by. One spin of the reels has the power to be life-changing, as many players around the world can testify.
We went in search of some of the most impressive slot wins, and found some interesting stories.
Cynthia Jay Brennan’s Story
The strange events in the life of Cynthia Jay Brennan are behind the modern legend of the Megabucks Curse. In January 2000, the cocktail waitress spun the reels of the Megabucks slot machine at the Desert Inn Casino in Las Vegas.
After only a few spins, the symbols lined up and paid out an amazing $34.9 million. This, however, was not to be the last time her life would change in an instant.
Six weeks after Cynthia’s lucky win, she was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. The event left her paralyzed, and formed the basis of a modern casino legend.
Reasons to Remain Anonymous
In March 2003, a 25-year-old man visited Vegas for a basketball match. During his visit, he had some time to spare, and decided to become better acquainted with one of Sin City’s famous casino resorts.
His very first spin of the reels in the Excalibur Hotel & Casino won him almost $40 million. However, instead of shouting it from the rooftops, he begged the casino staff to let him remain anonymous. The terrified man reportedly told the attendants that his wife did not approve of gambling.
Luck Strikes Twice in Same Place
In January 2000, a retired air stewardess played slots at the Palace Station Casino in Las Vegas. The 67-year-old pulled the reels and landed a sumptuous jackpot of $27.5 million.
However, this was not the first time the player had won big at the Palace Station. Just a few years before, she had won a fantastic $680 000 while playing a different slot machine.
Winning Big Online
Not all the big slot wins happened in the casinos of Sin City. Online slots such as Mega Moolah, Eagles Wings, and Fish Party have also paid out generous winnings.
2016 was a particularly good year for some Mega Moolah players. The first of them was an anonymous player who won €6.9 million in April, followed by Rawiri Pou of New Zealand, who won more than NZ$10 million in June.
In August, a player named only as D.P. won €8 million when playing on her iPad, and in November, Marcus Goodwin won $11.6 million. Visit our Winners page to find out how much Mummys Gold players have won playing slots and other games at our online casino.
A Steak in the Jackpot
Not every slot player who hit the jackpot actually won the jackpot. Katrina Bookman learned this the hard way when the slot she played at New York’s Resorts World Casino announced she had won more than $42 million.
However, the machine’s maximum payout was set at $6500. It had malfunctioned, and the following day, Katrina found out she had won little more than the offer of a steak dinner consolation prize.
Hey Big Spender
We’re not sure how these lucky slots-winning players spent their money. What we do know is that is no shortage of items whose price-tags would require most players to first win a slot jackpot.
A vacuum cleaner studded with Swarovski crystals costs almost $19 000, and toilet paper made from 22-carat gold will set you back $1.3 million.
