Fortress Charge Slot™ Brings Medieval Quests to Life

These days, the high production value of slots – at least when they are released by leading developers – means the games work equally well on desktop and mobile casino platforms. That’s definitely the case with Fortress Charge, which was designed and created by Microgaming in collaboration with Crazy Tooth Studios. The graphics are truly incredible and the gameplay is novel, while also being simple enough to play on all major smartphones and tablets.

A Fantasy Adventure

Fortress Charge is a 3-row, 6-reel video slot with just 3 paylines. All symbols and background visuals tie into the medieval, questing theme; the reels themselves are set in a stone castle and treetops can be seen in the distance.

The game features many more icons than normal, with various villains, heroes, accessories, chests, fortresses and empty platforms. The heroes are a dragon, a beast, an elf, a knight and a dwarf, and the villains are represented by snakes, scorpions, boulders, spikes and ogres.

The accessories include wooden and shiny metal shields, potions, spears and magic wands. At this point, gamblers looking at the slot would be forgiven for thinking they’d stumbled across a version of Lord of the Rings!

In fact, the background music, graphic style, animations and interactive play makes Fortress Charge feel like an old-school video game that might be played in an arcade. The theoretical Return to Player percentage is a very respectable 96.45%, while the hit rate on this high-volatility slot is 12.35%.

With a betting range that starts at 0.1 coins per spin and goes to 15 coins, everyone should be able to afford a few rounds no matter what size their purse is. The detailed design allows for hugely enjoyable video game-like action that centres on the REEL QUEST feature.

Embarking on a REEL QUEST

Heroes can only land on the leftmost reel, and fortresses can only land on the rightmost reel. When either 1 or 2 heroes appear, they each begin their REEL QUESTand make their way along the payline (which is the same as the row) that they landed on.

Clever animations show each hero moving as they make their way across the screen. Accessories, villains, treasure chests, multipliers or empty platforms fill the positions on the middle 3 reels with every spin. The hero encounters them while travelling (charging, in the words of the game title) towards the fortress that represents the completion of their REEL QUEST.

Multipliers (2x, 4, 8x and 16x) are simply collected and applied to players’ final wins, while chests are worth 4.5x to 15x the total stake. If a hero comes across an accessory they can collect it, and when they encounter a villain they need to fight.

The winners and losers of these fights are determined by the specific hero and villain who are going u against each other, as well as by the accessories that have been collected. The dwarf defeats the boulder, the beast slays the ogre, the dragon can best the ogre and the spikes, the elf can conquer the scorpion and the knight can banish both the scorpion and the snake.

If a hero goes head to head with a villain that they can’t fight on their own, they can still win if they’re holding the right accessory. For example, if the knight encounters a boulder he’ll lose unless he has also collected a potion, in which case he will triumph over his adversary.

As well as potions besting boulders, spears can be used against ogres and both shields can be used against scorpions. Metal shields will also help heroes to defeat snakes. Finally, the wand can take any villain, so collecting one of these effectively makes a hero invincible – at least, until they have to use it!

Fireballs Light the Way

To keep the focus on the arcade game, story-like action of Fortress Charge, Microgaming and Crazy Tooth Studios have not added the Wild or Scatter Symbols that are usually seen on video slots. However, there is one final extra feature; fireballs can rain down at any time and obliterate all obstacles. That’s sure to add to the fun when players spin the reels of Fortress Charge, which drops on 11 June 2020 and is, of course, best enjoyed at Mummys Gold Casino!
